Gita Maria Visits Our Store!

For those of you as crazy about Gita's unique designs as we are, you will understand how excited we were that she came to Stitches & Scones to check us out. She is really nice and good at what she does. We thoroughly enjoyed talking with her about the popularity of knitting related podcasts. She has a favorite Australian podcast, and we listened to an episode. Gita's designs are so well known now, that they are being "knocked off" in Hong Kong. You can find the real thing at our store.

Handpainted Knitting Yarn Kit

As you can see from the photo, these beautiful kits make twelve individual balls. You can tie them together, alternate them, or use all the yarn on each ball for your project. A customer bought the larger 20 oz kit to make a sweater. We are starting a vest in the 10 oz. wool mix "Parsifal" colorway. It is pictured here.

Openwork Dress

We just finished the lovely Openwork Dress from the Vogue knit.1 summer '07 issue. Tunics are in this year and this is definitely a "must have" tunic. The lacy weave to the knit stitch looks a bit like crochet but... it's knitted!
The yarn is Tahki Bali -- a bamboo yarn that breathes well. It has a bit of a shine to it -- therefore it adds a touch of elegance to the finished piece.
Bethany and Molli tried this little dress on and and loved it! Bethany said the yarn was soft and not scratchy and pretty light weight. She was excited by the fact that it doesn't just "hang on you". So....if you're in the mood for a fashionable tunic, this is a good pattern to try! =)

End of Summer Sweater

People are beginning to trickle in for their "end of summer/beginning of fall" projects. Some are eager to find holiday projects. Others are hoping to find a sweater or project that will bridge the gap between the oppressive heat wave we have been having and the cool breezes we know will blow in .... sometime.

This pattern is the perfect "end of summer" sweater. The boat neckline is elegant and airy while the large cables remind you of a favorite fall sweater. Right now the pattern is free with a purchase of yarn, so come on in!
