Crochet Baby Set

We have a new crochet baby set that was designed exclusively for Stitches & Scones. They look like little munchkin shoes and are also reminiscent of the Baby Ugg Booties that are so popular right now. The hat and shoe set only require one skein of Universal Yarn's "Impressions." The complete set whips up in no time at all -- so if there is a last-minute baby gift you need to make, this would be perfect!

Delia

If you love top-down raglan style sweaters Christina has a new fall pattern out. It is made from Fleece Artist Merino Silk and drapes like a dream!

And Our Winner Is....

Congratulations! Karen M has won the blog give away! She is now the proud owner of a luscious scarf.

Karen M -- please contact Stitches & Scones during business hours to claim your prize!

Lily Chin Visits Stitches & Scones

Those of us who were lucky enough to attend the Lily Chin workshops were inspired by her great techniques. There is a reason her classes are the first to sell out at Stitches and the tradeshows. Lily is constantly brainstorming when she is with you, and she tries to pass on any
thing she can to help. She is one of the most interesting women I have met, and we thoroughly enjoyed her visit to Westfield.

Blog Give Away

Okay... we are going to do a "Blog Give Away". Anyone who comments on our blog between today and Thursday, November 29 will be entered into a drawing for this lovely Mountain Colors & Hanah Silk Scarf.

Design II

Another Design II class has ended and as usual the students have done fabulously! Robin designed a V-neck, all-over-lace tunic sweater and she finished it beautifully! Robin, you did a great job!

Design III, dealing with color work in top-down sweaters, will be on Saturday mornings in January. Design I will be starting Thursday afternoons 2-4 in January. Design II will be in February, Thursday afternoons from 2-4! If you would like to take a class, give us a call. Christina only takes 4 students per class so they fill up fast!

Prism Lace Yarn

We just received some beautiful Prism lace weight yarn. When I first picked it up I thought it was Alpaca because it was so soft -- but it's 100 % wool! There are 1460 yards in one skein. A picture does not do justice to the beautiful hues of purple and green.

Art Felt

Early in the week Lin surprised us all with this beautiful Art Felt table runner for fall. Lin said it is a quick, easy and fun project. Instantly I thought, "Hmm... quick Christmas gifts and Christmas hostess gifts..."

Make sure to ask Lin about workshops... I think some are in the works!

Jo Sharp Shipment

Wednesday the UPS truck rolled up to the back of the store and dropped off our big fall shipment of Jo Sharp! It seemed as if we would never get it processed but... a day later it is done. Now, finding space for it was quite another feat to accomplish!

The shipment included Alpaca Kid Lustre, Silkroad DK Tweed and Classic DK Wool!
Just in time for those wonderful fall & winter sweaters, wouldn't you agree?

Staff Weaver Competes in Sheep to Shawl

You may have met Lisa on a Saturday at Stitches & Scones. She is one of our very hard-working teenagers who helps in the store. Lisa was a team captain this year in the Sheep to Shawl competition. She wove this beautiful shawl from the fiber spun by her team. Fortunately for Lisa, her grandmother bought the piece. Congratulations.
Lisa plans to teach weaving classes at Stitches & Scones this fall and winter. Watch for her class times soon.

Koigu Arrives

The first part of our latest Koigu order is here. The rest of it is scheduled to arrive soon. Variagated and solids are available.

Kid Mohair Coat

Helen Oden came in with this beautiful Kid Mohair Boucle coat she had made. We were impressed with its warmth, drape and coziness. Good job Helen!

Needlepoint Class

Lin's needlepoint class was a flurry of activity today. It was fun to see their projects -- Lin handpainted their initials for their first canvas for class.

It was so cute to hear them when they finished the class and came through to purchase their yarn -- they were already planning their next projects!

Local Grand Champion Winner

Local knitter, Katie Hicks, won Grand Champion of the Needlecraft category at the Hamilton County 4-H Fair this year. She went on to the Indiana State Fair and won a Blue Merit for her combination of cabled scarf, hat, and fingerless mittens. She used Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted. Each piece has the same cable pattern, and Katie transferred the pattern from the mittens to her other projects. Not only is she a beautiful knitter, but she created the scarf and hat patterns. Congratulations. We look forward to seeing next year's project.

Dress Knitted in Ribbon Yarn

Christina finished this dress from a Filatura di Crosa pattern. This soft ribbon, Venezia, created a nice drape in our garment. The availability of dress and skirt patterns has grown this year. Start with a cute skirt for a little girl you know. If she is like my daughter she will love it.

Sock Yarn from Fleece Artist

The colors are hard to resist. If you are not a sock knitter, this yarn will make you want to be one. This shipment was worth the wait.

Mystery Stole 3 is Finished

A frequent customer of our store, Nancy Lind, shared her beautiful Mystery Stole with us. The slight variation in the Pale Khaki Malabrigo Lace yarn adds to the overall appeal of this stole. With an affordable price and much positive feedback, this yarn is a hit. Thanks Nancy.

Gita Maria Visits Our Store!

For those of you as crazy about Gita's unique designs as we are, you will understand how excited we were that she came to Stitches & Scones to check us out. She is really nice and good at what she does. We thoroughly enjoyed talking with her about the popularity of knitting related podcasts. She has a favorite Australian podcast, and we listened to an episode. Gita's designs are so well known now, that they are being "knocked off" in Hong Kong. You can find the real thing at our store.

Dream in Color Shipment is Here

A big order of "Classy Worsted" is available. We pulled the special orders and got it all tagged. The orders are taking about two months, so come soon if you are interested in this unique hand-painted yarn. The slight variations in color are easy to the eye. It is machine washable, so use it for children's items also.

Lace from Louet

We are almost finished with this Baby Blanket pattern with Euroflax sport weight in natural. It is a striking pattern. The natural linen is machine washable and dryable. Many other colors are currently in stock.

Accessory Bags in Bright Colors

A new shipment of bags arrived today from Mango Moon. They are cloth, zippered, and will fit in most knitting bags.

Handpainted Knitting Yarn Kit

As you can see from the photo, these beautiful kits make twelve individual balls. You can tie them together, alternate them, or use all the yarn on each ball for your project. A customer bought the larger 20 oz kit to make a sweater. We are starting a vest in the 10 oz. wool mix "Parsifal" colorway. It is pictured here.

Openwork Dress

We just finished the lovely Openwork Dress from the Vogue knit.1 summer '07 issue. Tunics are in this year and this is definitely a "must have" tunic. The lacy weave to the knit stitch looks a bit like crochet but... it's knitted!
The yarn is Tahki Bali -- a bamboo yarn that breathes well. It has a bit of a shine to it -- therefore it adds a touch of elegance to the finished piece.
Bethany and Molli tried this little dress on and and loved it! Bethany said the yarn was soft and not scratchy and pretty light weight. She was excited by the fact that it doesn't just "hang on you". So....if you're in the mood for a fashionable tunic, this is a good pattern to try! =)

End of Summer Sweater

People are beginning to trickle in for their "end of summer/beginning of fall" projects. Some are eager to find holiday projects. Others are hoping to find a sweater or project that will bridge the gap between the oppressive heat wave we have been having and the cool breezes we know will blow in .... sometime.

This pattern is the perfect "end of summer" sweater. The boat neckline is elegant and airy while the large cables remind you of a favorite fall sweater. Right now the pattern is free with a purchase of yarn, so come on in!

Circular Sweaters

I remember making my first sweater. I slaved away on it, knitting in eager anticipation of putting it on and wearing it. BUT... when I did finally finish it I was so disappointed by how it fitted me. I am sure many of you have had that experience.

Well, throw disappointment to the wind by taking one of Lin's circular sweater. Lin teaches you how to take the measurements from a favorite sweater and the gauge of your chosen yarn to calculate your sweater. And....the result is absolute perfection!

Staff Returns to College

One of my favorite things about having a yarn shop is working with the younger staff. They are such a big help in so many ways. Not only do I appreciate their computer knowledge, but the input from them has shaped Stitches & Scones. Lauren & Bethany, we hope you have a good school year and look forward to seeing you both soon. Abby, thanks for your extra help this summer. You really got us organized!

For those of you who may have teens and tweens interested in the Fiber Arts, many of the students staff members work on Saturdays. Come visit us and see which area appeals to you.

Chris Gilbert is planning a Mother/Daughter Beginning Knitting Class soon.

Mountain Colors Sweater Just Finished

This sweater is a classic. We used a Knitting Pure & Simple pattern called "Neckdown Wrap Cardign". The yarn is Mountain Colors Twizzle. Come see this sweater. It will make you appreciate the great job this company does with their yarns.
